“In every relationship something fierce is needed once in a while.” -Robert Bly
Look familiar? This was a quote posted by Beau yesterday. Well, my once in a while has arrived! I don't know if it is exactly in the same context Bly was speaking of and I definitely did not want the person on the other end of that relationship to be my spouse, but because of my foolishness, pride, and selfishness, I guess it was only a matter of time. Please pray for Stacie & I as we persevere through some growing pains.
I first want to say that I believe God is in full control and his timing is perfect. These three vices in my life need to be dealt with and how appropriate a time. (a month before our baby arrives) With a new one around, selflessness, humility, and wisdom will need to be cultivated in our home. There will be no place for selfishness, pride, and foolishness!
I have been struggling a lot lately with how I communicate with my wife! It seems as if after a long day at work of constantly talking to people, then a trip to the gym, I have about an ounce of graciousness when I arrive home. And even that ounce seems to be wiped out after first glance of another book that was chewed on by our puppy while we were working all day. The root of this problem is my lack of effort in being the spiritual leader at home. I love to read, write, encourage co-workers, love on my friends, but for some reason, I fail miserably at praying with my wife daily, encouraging her in doing her quiet time, and scheduling evenings for us to do a weekly bible study together.
Please hold me accountable to the following list by asking me on a regular basis if this is occurring at home:
***I intend to listen to a sermon one night a week with her
***Pray together daily
***Schedule one evening a week for us to study Song of Solomon
***Encourage her to spend some time in the word daily on her own!
I have found lately that 90% of the time, we look to determine who is to blame for our shortcomings/disputes. We are quick to develop a logical argument proving the other persons quilt and then we reiterate our point until the moment in which the other crumbles. I am convicted that it is in these times that I need to forget about logic and grab a bowl of warm water, kneel before my spouse, and wash her feet! I need to be like-minded with the Savior of whom I profess! Please take a moment to meditate on the goodness and grace of our savior, lift our struggles up to the Lord, and make the proper changes in your own life in regard to any vices you struggle with. Thank God that His mercies are new every morning!
"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way." (Ephesians 1:17-23)
